CNN Quotes the Gipper

WASHINGTON (CNN.com) -- "A quarter century after the Reagan revolution and a dozen years after Republicans vaulted into control of Congress, a new CNN poll finds most Americans still agree with the bedrock conservative premise that, as the Gipper put it, "government is not the answer to our problems -- government is the problem.""

School Lunches

Parenting today is tougher and tougher. With most households operating on dual incomes, parents are typically relying on the school's to feed their children during the day.

Why does the Federal Government need to be involved with feeding school children? Free Lunches, reduced price lunches or for that matter, full price lunches - is this a constitutional role for the government?

What's going on, America?

This just in from Reuters: Alan Greenspan speaking at a conference for the Commerical Finance Assocation: "We’re beginning to see some move from the Dollar to the Euro, both from the private sector… but also from monetary authorities and central banks.”

Greenspan's comments have led me to this thought: In the past decade, we have seen a global shift in trade, commerce and most definitely a clash of cultures. As the sole super power, America has led the way in this movement, but do we know where we are going?

As global influence dominates America's economy, will we become stronger or will our power diminish?

What Defense?

I'm definitely glad for the 41-38 win, but what was up with the shoot out? DeAngelo Hall couldn't hang with Hines Ward. Why didn't the D-fence adjust? Assuming this is the style of play, can the Falcon's keep up with the high profile offenses of the NFL?

Baptist Renounce Speaking in Tongues?

From the Washington Times: Trustees from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary passed a resolution that states: "Southwestern will not knowingly endorse in any way, advertise or commend the conclusions of the contemporary charismatic movement including private prayer language. Neither will Southwestern knowingly employ professors or administrators who promote such practice."

The article goes on to capture history of the SBC not allowing missionaries to speak in tongues. President Paige Patterson was quoted in saying that "are an erroneous interpretation of the Bible" and continued in saying that "Southern Baptist traditionally have stood against what we feel like are the excesses of the charismatic movement."

Thoughts?

Doctor's in the classroom

Educators should be considered professionals in the likes of Doctors, Accountants and Attorneys. Unfortunately, the system does not reward teachers like the other professionals. Similarly, it seems the more advanced education a Teacher earns, the further from the classroom they descend. Should the education program reward $$ Doctors of Education if they reside in the classroom? I don't recall ever meeting Dr. Teacher in the elementary or middle school level. I'm certain that you won't find a Dr. in Education earning $250,000 + per year.

REPO MAN

Georgia has the highest rate in the country for home foreclosures and coincidently, interest only loans. In the instant information age, we have created a society of instant gratification. Is today's generation trying to accomplish over-night the status that it took baby boomers years to acheive? I'm not sure, but a $3500/ month mortgage seems high for most folks. Thoughts?

Big Schools vs. Small Schools

Kids today are encouraged to pick one sport to play. This is due to the vast resources of larger High-schools. The days where a kid could play several sports is dimming by the day. Very few kids make it to the collegiate level and even less to the professional leagues. Should kids be encouraged to play several sports and broaden their athletic abilities?

Tech over Georgia?

Vicarious position for Dawg fans this year. Is Tech that good or is UGA that bad?

End of an era?

AJC polling shows Sonny with a commanding 48% lead over Taylor's 28%. Libertarian Garrett Michael Hayes is third at 9% - the highest I've ever seen for a Libertarian canidate. Are Dem's done in Georgia or are we seeing the birth of a 3 party system?
